Details for an in person 1:1 or 1:2 Mentoring Session
My style of newborn photography is natural and pure. I try to showcase each precious newborn I work with in a way that emphasizes their natural beauty. With every newborn session I aspire to capture their innocence and purity through my lens.
My goal is to help you work with newborns and studio lighting to create images your clients will love. Proper exposure and white balance will be focused on to help you achieve the best possible images straight out of camera. We will also focus on how to pose baby safely and naturally to achieve timeless images. I will go over transitions between poses to maintain a smooth session, as well as soothing techniques to keep your precious clients comfortable and happy.
Following the photography portion of the day we will dive right into post processing and digital workflow. I will share with you my editing secrets to achieve those creamy skin tones, and how to tackle those common newborn editing dilemmas we all face.
You will be able to use the images taken from the workshop to build your newborn portfolio.

What people are saying!!
~For a long time I have looked around at different types of photography. Though I loved working with babies, it wasn’t coming together the way I hoped. Crystal’s workshop gave a thorough view on how to start the shoot right from the beginning to tying it up with a clean delivery. For the first time in my life, I feel directed and organized as a photographer. My confidence has grown and I feel in control. For the first time, I know newborn photography is what I really want to do. The best part… I feel it is finally starting to show in my images. Thank you so much Crystal! – Jocelyn Gerspacher~
~”There are a lot of workshops out there for babies and I kept going back and forth on which one to take. I had been following Crystal’s work on a fellow photographers group for some time. Her lighting is even, posing perfect and her images have this sweet quality. When she opened up the workshop in Edmonton it was a no brainer for me – I had to go. We had a very small group of about 6 of us – which was awesome. After a brief overview and question and answer session – we dived right into photographing newborns. All of us were watching Crystal, writing notes and figuring out posing. Crystal was very patient answering questions and explaining body positioning as she was doing everything. It was very helpful to watch exactly which way she moved legs and arms. Crystal was great at explaining everything, helping with custom white balance, posing, lighting, editing and ordering. I came away from the workshop with so much knowledge and saw a huge difference in my work right away. I’ve been able to book so much work from the progress I’ve made. I would highly recommend this course to anyone looking to better their skills with newborns and take their work to the next level.”~ Amanda Doucette-Lachapelle
~In my 10 year photography career, I tried several times (and failed!) to create newborn photos where the baby looked peaceful, relaxed and beautifully posed. I decided it was time to find out the secrets to doing this type of photography, as I just couldn’t get it on my own. I found Crystal’s notification and looked at her portfolio. She had so many photos in her portfolio which were consistently gorgeous. I was blown away by her talent, and immediately signed up for the workshop. Crystal informed me of exactly what was included in the workshop from beginning to end, including so many things I didn’t know were going to be priceless – including advice on how to deal with parents! The lesson on the importance of custom white balance made a huge difference in the time is takes in post production. The small workshop size was perfect, as we all had a chance to observe at all angles, see what goes into the pose, the safety of each pose, and all the fine details. Nothing was overlooked. She even showed us how to prepare the posing bag, stuff the baskets, and how each pose can easily flow into the next, maximizing the time with the baby to provide plenty of different poses for the parents to choose from. Crystal shared everything with us – including links to great resources, and how she edits to get that soft, simply beautiful skin. After the workshop I was eager to try out my new tricks, and everything worked beautifully. Not only have I cut down my session times, my post-production is streamlined leaving me more time away from the computer late at night! I had questions arise with my sessions after the workshop and Crystal went above and beyond to answer questions and help tweak those poses I couldn’t quite get. Since the workshop my newborn sessions have increased significantly and newborn photography has become one of my favourites to take on. I highly recommend Crystal’s workshop, you will not be disappointed. -Claudine Lavoie~
